Vice City is back. After years of leaks, two official trailers, and two delays, Rockstar Games has finally locked in a release date for Grand Theft Auto VI: November 19, 2026. Pre-orders are live, pricing is confirmed, and the hype machine is in full swing. Here’s every confirmed detail you need before launch day.

Release Date & Platforms
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game has been delayed twice — originally targeting 2025, then pushed to May 2026, and finally settled on the November date. Rockstar and Take-Two have reaffirmed this date multiple times, and Take-Two’s most recent earnings guidance treats it as firm.
Preload starts on November 12, one week before launch. Digital pre-orders get access to preload automatically.
As for PC — there is no confirmed date. Based on Rockstar’s history (GTA V took 18 months after console launch, Red Dead Redemption 2 took 13 months), a PC release in 2027 or 2028 is the realistic expectation. Multiple former Rockstar developers have publicly stated that console is the clear priority.
The Story: Bonnie & Clyde in Vice City
GTA 6 is set in a modern version of Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida — Rockstar’s take on present-day Miami and Florida. The game follows two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, whose lives collide when a simple job goes sideways and drags them into a criminal conspiracy stretching across the entire state.
Rockstar’s official description: “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
The story reportedly spans around 75 hours across five chapters, making it one of the longest single-player narratives Rockstar has ever built.

The Protagonists
Lucia Caminos
Lucia is the first female protagonist in a mainline, numbered Grand Theft Auto game. Born and raised in Liberty City, she’s spent her life fighting against difficult circumstances. She ended up in prison after getting caught protecting her family, and Vice City represents the fresh start she’s always been promised. She is not a sidekick — the game is built equally around her perspective.
Jason Duval
Jason tried to go straight. He joined the army to escape his criminal roots, but it didn’t stick. He ended up in the Leonida Keys doing dirty work for a local drug runner named Brian Heder. When he meets Lucia, everything changes — and not necessarily for the better. He is GTA’s first protagonist with a confirmed military background.

Supporting Cast
- Boobie Ike — a Vice City legend who runs a strip club, real estate, and a recording studio
- Dre’Quan Priest — aspiring rapper tied to organized crime
- Bae-Luxe & Roxy (aka Real Dimez) — viral rap duo with a strong social media presence
- Raul Bautista — experienced bank robber and talent scout
- Cal Hampton — Jason’s couch-surfing best friend who snoops on Coast Guard radio frequencies
The World: Leonida Is Massive
The map covers Vice City and the full state of Leonida — beaches, coastal keys, swamps, rural towns, a national park (Mount Kalaga), and port cities. Fan mapping based on trailer footage and the 2022 leak estimates the total map is 1.5× to 2× larger than GTA V’s combined Los Santos and Blaine County.
The world isn’t just bigger — it’s denser. More enterable buildings, underwater areas, and detailed vertical space (rooftops, building interiors) are all confirmed. Dynamic weather is also tied to gameplay: planning a heist during a hurricane for reduced police response is reportedly a real mechanic.

Confirmed Gameplay Features
Rockstar confirmed new gameplay details through an official product listing this week. Key features include:
- Switch between Jason and Lucia during open-world exploration and specific story sequences
- Strong emphasis on completing missions as a duo — cooperative story moments are central, not optional
- In-game smartphone with a working social media system: viral videos, influencer feeds, real-time events across Leonida
- Overhauled police AI with investigation mechanics based on last-known location, vehicle description, and the ability to evade via disguises
- Significantly smarter NPCs: crowds react to crime, go about routines that shift by time of day
- Evolving home base that reflects Jason and Lucia’s progress and choices
- Next-gen visuals via an updated RAGE engine: improved lighting, dynamic weather, environmental detail, character animation
Note: GTA 6 launches as a single-player experience only. An online multiplayer mode is planned but has no confirmed date.
