Get Ready for Splitgate 2: Everything We Know So Far!

If you’ve been eagerly waiting for news on Splitgate 2, then buckle up, because the folks at 1047 Games have just dropped some exciting updates about this sequel to the beloved arena shooter. More portal-jumping chaos is on the horizon, and it’s about to get a whole lot more strategic with the introduction of three class-based factions: Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask. Each faction brings its own flair, adding fresh tactics to your gameplay.

So, when can you expect to dive into this new universe? Mark your calendars for 2025! The cinematic announcement trailer confirmed the release, and you’ll be able to play it on PC (both Steam and Epic Games Store), as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The buzz at the 2024 The Game Awards reiterated that 2025 is the year we’ll finally get our hands on this highly anticipated title.

While we don’t have an exact date yet, we can make some educated guesses based on past events. Since the first open alpha for the original Splitgate kicked off in February 2025, with an open beta following in May, we might be looking at a full launch later in the year. If 1047 wants to avoid the crowded release window that comes with major titles like Call of Duty, a Q3 2025 release seems like a solid bet.

Also, let’s be real: since Splitgate is a free game, it’s bound to attract a huge crowd whenever it drops. But avoiding clashes with other big shooters is definitely a smart move!

Splitgate 2 Trailers: What’s Cooking?

The excitement kicked off with the cinematic announcement trailer that hit the internet on July 18, 2024. Right from the get-go, it’s clear that Splitgate 2 is shaking things up with its three unique factions. The trailers hint that while portals remain a core element, each faction’s special abilities are set to change how we approach battles.

Then, during The Game Awards 2024, we got our first taste of gameplay action. A minute-long clip showcased the classic portal mechanics while reassuring fans that the new class system won’t overshadow the fast-paced portal fun we know and love.

The latest teaser showcased the open alpha, revealing an exhilarating 8v8v8 Multi-Team Portal Warfare mode and the first opportunity for players to join in on the action.

Gameplay Sneak Peek: What’s New in Splitgate 2?

In early August 2024, we were treated to our first glimpse of in-game footage from a playtest featuring top-tier players like Timothy ‘iiTzTimmy’ An and Seth ‘Scump’ Abner. This footage unveiled some key features that set Splitgate 2 apart, especially the introduction of the new factions and their unique abilities.

Each faction brings its own playstyle to the table. For instance, Aeros is all about speed and agility, reminiscent of characters from other popular shooters. Meridian takes on the support role, equipped with healing grenades and wallhacks to spot enemies. Meanwhile, Sabrask is your classic bruiser, boasting shields and grenades to pack a punch. Team composition will be critical, so think carefully about how to mix and match your squad!

One of the coolest features we noticed in the gameplay was the new sliding mechanic. Get ready to glide across the battlefield with style!

During a closed alpha test in mid-August, we got hands-on with the game, and trust us, mastering the portals is still the name of the game. While the Sabrask’s smart wall might seem like a strong defense, a well-placed portal can easily outmaneuver it. The new auto triple portal system makes managing your portals a breeze—just press one button to open and close them, and you can even overwrite enemy portals. It’s super intuitive and surprisingly effective!

Plus, we got to try out some new power weapons, like the Slipstream (an assault rifle that transforms into dual SMGs) and a rocket launcher that can unleash its entire magazine in one explosive shot. Just remember, these weapons have their downsides—like limited ammo and restrictions on using utilities while equipped.

We also experienced classic game modes like Team Deathmatch and Hotzone, a king-of-the-hill mode with a twist. The second zone always spawns closer to the team that’s losing, keeping the competition fierce. Imagine getting a zone to 99% only to have it snatched away at the last second—talk about heart-stopping gameplay!

Wrapping Up

With all these updates and features, Splitgate 2 is shaping up to be an exhilarating sequel that promises to keep fans on their toes. Stay tuned for more news as we edge closer to that 2025 release date. Until then, keep practicing those portal jumps!
